EuroBijoux May moves to Majorca
This May, EuroBijoux & Accessories made a strategic move to further consolidate the positioning of European fashion jewellery. The 62nd edition of the fair was held in Palma de Majorca, the venue located just next to the Son Sant Joan Airport on Majorca in the Balearic Islands region, from 5 to 8 May.
| Relocated from its former base on another Balearic island, Minorca, the fair's new venue on the even more popular holiday destination Majorca is considered ideal, as fair organiser Spanish Association of Fashion Jewellery Manufacturers (SEBIME) pointed out that the Son Sant Joan Airport is the third biggest airport in Spain, with good connections to other European cities. The fair's debut edition was held in 1972. |
SEBIME collaborated with the Instituto de Comercio Exterior (Foreign Trade Institute), or ICEX, the Balearic Islands' government and Minorca's Island Council to make this edition possible.
| Eighty-nine companies exhibited at the fair, most of them Spanish and based especially in the Balearics and Barcelona, while others were from European countries such as France, Italy, Germany, Greece, Czech Republic and the Netherlands. An impressive percentage increase of 63% in the number of vistors was recorded, though the bitter aftertaste of the financial crisis was still lingering, resulting in cautious transactions. |
As a result of the new arrangement, from now on EuroBijoux will be held in Milan for Spring/Summer collections, with the edition for Autumn/Winter, which has just debuted, being held on Majorca. Madrid editions will remain and be held in between the Milan and Majorca fairs.
| Meanwhile, special features of the fair included a gallery showcasing pieces from national and international young designers. Last but not least, the Awards for European Fashion Jewellery and Accessories Designers were presented during the fair, the winners being Vicent Guarner, Gisella Cabestany and Rebeca Abadia, while the EuroBijoux Manufacturers' Awards 2010 were presented to Taratata, Afra Europa, S.L. and Beads Mataró Ninou. |
