Éclat de Mode sees a more competitive market

The Spring/Summer 2010 edition of Éclat de Mode took place from 24 to 26 January at Pavilion 5, Porte de Versailles in Paris. Coming from 35 countries, 400 exhibitors participated in the show under the categories "Fashion, Designer, Haute Couture," "Silver, Gold, Gold-plated and Watches," "Fashion Accessories," "Elements" and "Cream by Éclat de Mode."

Richard Martin, the show's deputy director, commented, "Since boutiques are being more cautious in choosing products so as to avoid impulse buys during the [economic] crisis, a competitive atmosphere has been created among industry practitioners. You have to seize opportunities if you want to survive and thrive. The jewellery-making process is more businesslike than in the past."

This year, Éclat de Mode presented us with four trends for Spring/Summer 2010: "Blush" – hot colour is soft tone-on- tone, materials like chiffon, lace, satin ribbon and pearls are largely applied in jewellery; "Mix N' Match" – warm hues are in vogue, chains and necklaces are set with semi-precious stones, or decoration with leather, horn, wood or aged metal is seen in multiple layers; "Urban" – dark and smoky with vivid accents, we will also see large and chunky jewellery made of metal, studs, zips and resins; and "Farm" – fresh pastels are the main staple, and chokers or brooches with floral or fruit motifs as well as embroidery, glass beads and porcelain are hot.

The next edition of Éclat de Mode will be held from 4 to 7 September 2010.
